• Farmers Market - Enjoy the farmers market next to the museum on a Saturday morning, for fresh produce and good coffee.
   

• Wolvekral Walk - Take a natural history walk with Sue and Richard Dean to learn about the flora of the area and more (a must do with kids). Ph: 082 770 0206

• Swartberg Pass –  Take a 27km drive on gravel road over the majestic Swartberg Pass.  This will take you about 1 hour 15 minutes without stopping to enjoy the views.  The height above sea level here is 1585m. This road is fine for all vehicles.If it has rained, please call the police to make sure the pass is open.  Ph: 023 541 8000
   

• Meiringspoort - Take a drive through the magnificent Meiringspoort to see the Swartberg Mountains from a different perspective.  Cross various rivers 27 times along the way and stop to take a walk and swim in the beautiful waterfall pool.  This road is tarmac all the way.  If it has rained, please call the police to be sure the pass is open and not flooded. • Weltevrede  Fig and Guest Farm - Take a 25 km drive on a good gravel road to Weltevrede Fig Farm, winding through a valley of fruit farms.  Ph:087 095 6229
  You may also eat and sleep over : figfarm.co.za. Open Monday to Friday from 9h -16h, Saturday 9h – 14h. Sunday closed.
  En route, there is one of the best sundown spot around. 
   

• Cango Caves – The Swartberg Pass is closed for construction. From 20.10.17 it will be open from 8am on Friday mornings till 8am on Monday mornings.  The Cango Caves are accessible from Oudtshoorn. Other than that, the Cango Caves are just over an hour way over the Swartberg Pass.  You can also access them by going through Meiringpoort, de Rust andOudtshoorn which is tarmac all the way. • The Karoo National Park– This is about an hour away just before Beaufort West.Ph: 023 415 2828
   

• Kobus se Gat - Stop over at Kobus se Gat for a meal or something to drink on the way to Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves, where you can get lost in the silence and the views. Ph: 044 272 2143 -

• Walks - Take walks up the koppie or all around the town and view the interesting architecture.

• Prince Albert Art Gallery - Visit the Prince Albert Gallery for a great selection of art in various mediums.

• Prince of Africa: next to the Swartberg hotel: here you may purchase beautifully knitted scarves, jacket, etc in the best mohair of the world. You may also admire and purchase the very nice jewels made by Di Stein with local stones, silver and pieces of ceramic she finds in the area. You may also visit Di’s studio by prior arrangement. • Swartberg Hotel – Half minute walking distance. In the morning, it is very pleasant to have a breakfast or a coffee on their terrace.  In the evening, they open their restaurant inside the hotel with typical Karoo food.   And you may also have a drink at the Green Prince next door.
   

• The Green Prince Gin Bar  - At the Swartberg Hotel. You can have a light meal here too.
   

• The Rude Chef Bistro – opposite the hotel.  They make outstanding fish and chips and other meals too. Ph: 073 120 1243
   

• The Real Food Company – Located in Mark Street in the old Olive Branch premises, The Real Food Company has a small but tasty menu, tapas like,  with Mediterranean influences Licensed.

• Karoo Kombuis – This is a character restaurant run by friends who worked together for SAA many years ago.  They serve an excellent ‘bordkos’, of traditional South African foods like roast lamb and bobotie.   Unlicensed.

• Spar: At the entrance of Prince Albert, coming from Albert Road we have a Spar which is open

  • Week days: from 8 a.m. till 6 p.m.

  • Week-ends and Public Holidays : from 8 a.m. till 1 p.m
     

• Gay’s dairy: For yoghourt, cheese, other dairy products, meat, and home cooked meals.  Find them on your right, at the beginning of Kerkstreet when you come from the Swarberg pass.  Gay’s dairy is open 

  • Week-days: 7-9 a.m.; 10-12 a.m.; 4-5.30pm       

  • Week-ends: 7-10 am; 16.30-17.30.

You will notice that there are many other places in town where you can buy local produce but with the shops above you should be able to get the basics.
